How to Share Jesus with Someone Who Doesn’t Believe in God

Sharing Jesus with someone who does not believe in God can feel like building a house without a foundation. But as Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.Matthew 19:26.

God has reached countless skeptics—C.S. Lewis, Lee Strobel, Francis Collins, and many more. There’s truly no nut too hard for God to crack.

So how can we faithfully reach those who don’t believe? Here are five key reminders:

1. Only God Can Open Their Eyes

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14

We cannot change hearts—only God can. That’s why prayer is crucial. Ask the Spirit to lead you and to soften their heart. A Spirit-filled life is a powerful witness.

2. You’re Part of a Bigger Picture

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:6

Don’t carry the weight of someone’s salvation on your shoulders. God works through many means—conversations, creation, media, and more. Your role matters, but He’s orchestrating the bigger story.

3. Understand What’s Beneath the Surface

“The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” Proverbs 20:5

Sometimes unbelief isn’t intellectual, it’s personal or emotional based on pain from the past. Ask questions, listen, and seek to build trust. People open up when they feel heard and seen.

4. Let Scripture Speak

“The word of God is living and active…” Hebrews 4:12

Don’t be afraid to share Scripture—even with skeptics. You don’t need to defend every verse. Let God’s Word do what only it can do—pierce hearts. Just make sure it’s shared in love, not as ammunition.

5. Lead with Love

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35

In our dark world, love shines brightly. Let your life reflect the love of Jesus. Be kind. Be patient. Be humble. Over time, love is often what draws people to the truth.

Keep praying. Keep loving. Keep trusting. And remember God’s words: “I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?Jeremiah 32:27
